WHAT TO EXPECT
ON YOUR FIRST VISIT
During your first visit Dr. Barnett will discuss with you your symptoms and history. He will conduct general tests as well as specific orthopedic and neurological tests to determine the range of motion in the affected area or areas of your body, your muscle tone and strength, and neurological integrity. You may need an x-ray or other diagnostic tests. If so, Dr. Barnett will condust those tests or arrange them for you.
Through the examination, Dr. Barnett will determine the cause and extent of the problem so that he can develop a treatment plan customized for you. He will discuss this plan as well as give you information on the chiropractic techniques he will use and any other treatment forms he feels will be beneficial.
Does a Chiropractic adjustment hurt? Chiropractic adjustment is a controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. Chiropractic techniques emphasize minimal force and gentle pressure. Dr. Barnett is highly skilled and experienced with chiropractic adjustments so you are in good hands.
Many patients report hearing a popping sound during their adjustment. The popping noises sometimes heard are your joints releasing tiny pockets of gas. This is completely normal and for most patients will provide some immediate relief. Remember, it is a returning of the bone to it's proper alignment, to where it should be.
Dr. Barnett will discuss things that you should do to assist in the healing process. These things may include lifestyle modifications or permanent changes like avoiding heavy lifting for a period of time or drinking more water. There will usually be a recommended number of follow up sessions over time to fully correct the problem. Usually the problem didn't occur overnight so it will take time and multiple adjustments to correct it.
Your first visit will include a thorough chiropractic exam
